The Plot of The Arrangement
The Arrangement tells the story of Vincent Hunt, Viscount Darleigh, who was blinded by a cannon blast at the age of 19. He returns to England after recovering from his injuries, only to find that his family is eager to find him a suitable wife. However, Vincent values his independence and does not want to be trapped in a marriage with someone who will pity him or control him.
One day, he escapes to a remote country village, hoping to avoid his mother's matchmaking schemes. But even there, he falls into another marital trap set by a local family who wants to marry off their daughter to him. Fortunately, he is rescued by Miss Sophia Fry, a distant cousin of the family who has been living with them as an unwanted guest. Sophia intervenes on Vincent's behalf and prevents him from being forced into an unwanted marriage.
But her act of kindness has a price. She is unceremoniously kicked out of her guardian's home and left with no place to go. Vincent feels obliged to help her and offers her a solution: marriage. He proposes that they enter into a marriage of convenience, where they will both benefit from each other's protection and companionship. He assures her that he does not expect anything more from her than friendship and respect.
At first, Sophia rejects his proposal. She does not want to marry a stranger, even if he is a handsome and kind viscount. But she soon realizes that she has no other choice. Her alternative is too dreadful to contemplate. She agrees to marry Vincent and become his wife.
But what starts as a cold arrangement soon turns into something more. As Vincent and Sophia get to know each other better, they discover that they have a lot in common. They both value honesty, loyalty, and freedom. They both have been hurt by life and are looking for a way to heal. And they both feel a growing attraction and affection for each other that goes beyond friendship.
But can they overcome the obstacles that stand in their way of happiness? Can they trust each other with their secrets and fears? Can they make their marriage work, not just in name, but in reality? And can they find the love that they both deserve?
